Biography

Roman Hill is a French-American artist and filmmaker based in Marseille, France. His practice centers on capturing chemical reactions, physical and optical phenomena at ultra small scale and in ultra slow motion, always in camera and without CGI or AI. His work is an ongoing attempt to understand how the universe flows and dances, to grasp what life is, and to contemplate it all more deeply.

His recent web series Origines (2025), produced by Arte, tells the story of the universe through the perspective of light. He has also contributed to the feature film Project Hail Mary (2026) and to the series Dune: Prophecy, and collaborated with artists including Metallica, Coldplay and Liam Gallagher.

His short films As Above (2020) and Lucid (2023) both received Vimeo Staff Picks. His immersive works have been presented at the Atelier des Lumières in Paris with Life & Chaos (2019), at the Noor Riyadh festival in Saudi Arabia with Impulse (2022) and Inflow outflow (2025), and at the Grand Palais in Paris with Hyperstellar (2025).
